Evening in Boston

If I only have a few hours in the evening, should I go to Harvard square or is there stuff open along the freedom trail in the evening?

Evening in Boston

Where are you staying?

If you are near the Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market might be a better, closer choice.

Harvard Square is also a decent choice, esp. if you are near there to begin with.

Evening in Boston

If your short on time and plan to do the Trail, maybe a stop at Fanueil Hall Marketplace will fit into your plans instead of Harvard Square. The Trail heads off into the North End from there with lots of restaurants and pastry shops.

We will actually have one evening, then 6 hours the next day. I just want to make sure to fit in freedom trail, north end, and harvard or cambridge area. I have no idea what we are close too. Nothing, I think. WE are staying in Waltham.

Are you taking the train into Boston?

Should we?

I should also add that it will be on Memorial Day

Do you have a car?

If your coming on Memorial Day, I would definitely drive into the city since nobody will be working that day. Park at the Boston Common Garage. The Boston Common is where the Freedom Trail begins and the garage has some of the best parking rates in Boston.

Boston is one of the difficult cities for tourists to drive in, the roads and streets are poorly-signed, people drive aggressively, and the streets can be a confusing jumble of one-ways.

I%26#39;ll admit I%26#39;ve never tried to take the train from Waltham, which might not be far as the crow flies, but it%26#39;s still a bit ';out there.';

If you are coming on Sunday or Monday of Memorial Day weekend, you%26#39;ll likely avoid the crush of normal workday/rush hour traffic, which will make it easier to drive in.

But if someone else here has a train route that makes sense, I%26#39;d say, yeah, take the train.

On Memorial Day you might even find a space on the street. So, you could defintiely drive in. But, once you have found a place to park, do not rely on the car to get around town. Use the subway.

Commuter Rail from Waltham is an option, but it will be running on a holiday schedule.

Another good option would be to drive and park at the Riverside Green Line stop in Newton and take the T in.
