Boston in general and Eliot hotel in specific questions

A friend and her son are planning to meet me and my daughter for a few days in Boston. Our children are young- 3 and 8- so we%26#39;d like to get a hotel somewhat centrally located. We also would like a hotel with either a 2 bedroom suite or a 1 bedroom suite with a connecting room. The Eliot has a 2 bedroom suite and the price is right, but i worry that the location is somewhat out of the way. Any thoughts on teh Eliot and/or other area hotels? Thank you

The Eliot is very centrally-located, Boston is truly a compact walkable city, If you have a good rate for a suite, I would grab it!

Boston in general and Eliot hotel in specific questions

Hi,

I%26#39;m not sure where you got the idea that th Eliot is out of the way, but it%26#39;s right in the heart of Back Bay, close to the T, and walking distance to shopping, restaurants and tourist stuff. I%26#39;d say if it meets your needs, grab it.

Agree- good location. It%26#39;s a beautiful (small) hotel.

I guess i was of the impression that it was at the top of newbury street away from the common. If we wanted to spend some time at the aquarium with the kids, etc, it seemed quite a bit away- esp for an 8 year old child who would probably get tired walking. the 3 year old will be in a stroller- good for walking, sort of a pain for public travel.

I have also heard some negative posts of the eliot- that it%26#39;s loud, some of the beds are uncomfortable... but it really looks great. I%26#39;m used to staying at nicer places-- would the eliot be considered 3 star or 4 star? thanks again!

I know nothing about the Eliot so I can%26#39;t comment on that, but if you plan to bounce from area to area of the city with small kids, your going to have to take the T at some point. I would consider the stroller a minor inconvienence for getting from A to B. The green line which the Eliot is on runs east/west through the city. It will take you to the Public Garden/Boston Common, very close to Fanueil Hall and pretty close to the Aquarium. You could take the green line to Gov%26#39;t Center and transfer to the blue line for the 2 stops to the Aquarium or just walk 10 minutes. Fanueil Hall is a 5 minute walk from Gov%26#39;t Center.

Have stayed at the Eliot several times and love the large suites for my husband, teen and her friends.

We have never had any issues with service or problems with the rooms. I can%26#39;t say it is 4 star but, definitely on the higher end of a 3 star. Used the restaurant once for breakfast and prefer walking around the corner to a Dunkin Donuts.

I just called the Fairmont Copley and can get a 1 bedroom suite with connector at a AAA rate of $846 plus a $100 food and beverage credit. It sounds like maybe this migth be my best option. Any thoughts? Is the fairmont copley nicer than the eliot? I know location-wise they are similar.

Is that a per night rate? I have always paid in the mid to high 200%26#39;s at the Eliot. The suites have always been large and we were given a nice corner one last 4th of July and let the kids walk to fenway for a game. It is just a nicely decorated small boutique hotel in a perfect location for us. The last time I paid a 800.00 plus a nite rate was for an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora!

The Fairmont Copley is a beautiful hotel. It is in the luxury category.

Both hotels are very nice. I like that the Eliot sits on Commonwealth Ave. Walking down the middle of Com. Ave.(Emerald Necklace) is very nice, especially early evening. I believe there is a dog park on one stretch. Just in case you have pets at home and need an animal fix.
