Hey guys.
My husband and I are staying in Plymouth, MA sat night and planning on driving down to Falmouth,MA, sun morning and catching the ferry, and spending the day at Martha%26#39;s Vineyard. we%26#39;ll catch a cab, and ride around a bit, check out some sites and then catch the ferry back in the afternoon and drive back to Providence as we have to catch a flight at 645 pm. Is this trip even do-able?

That%26#39;s a long day! Consider it%26#39;s about 40 minutes to Falmouth .. then parking, buying tickets, getting on the boat. 30-45 mins. on the boat, depending if you go Island Queen or Steamship. And you%26#39;ve got to be off the rock by 3 p.m. or so, to get the return boat and drive to Providence in order to get a 6:45 flight. Wow. I%26#39;m tired just thinking about it. But, technically, it%26#39;s doable. Get up early, catch one of the first boats, and you%26#39;ll have several hours on the island. What sights do you want to see? It%26#39;d have to be a pretty abbreviated trip, but again, I think if you%26#39;re motivated, you can make it happen.
Good luck!

Hi,
After looking at the ferry schedules, I%26#39;m going to say it%26#39;s not worth it. Here%26#39;s why. First of all, you have to be up and out early since the ride is more like 1 hour. Then park your car at the Palmer Ave satellite lot [$12] and take the shuttle to the ferry terminal. Palmer is about 5 miles from the ferry. So, then you have your choice of the 6am, 7am or 8:15am ferry over. Each trip is 45 minutes. Taking the earliest ferry won%26#39;t leave you much to do until everything opens up. The 7am wouldn%26#39;t be bad. The problem comes with having to take the 2:30pm back to Woods Hole. Then shuttle to your car and drive the nearly 2 hours to Providence airport, drop the car off and then go through security. That will be cutting it close for a 6:45 flight. So, between the driving, parking and ferry costs, I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s worth it to spend 6 hours on the island. If you don%26#39;t care about that and just want to be there for a little bit, then by all means go for it. It will stink to have to take such an early ferry back, then bolt for Providence to catch your flight. Have you considered an alternative like spending the day in Newport which has plenty to keep you busy for the day and the convienence of a 25 minute ride to the airport?
