I%26#39;m staying in Somerset, MA (Quality Inn) for family graduation celebration (Bristol, RI) this coming weekend. I%26#39;ll be with 9-12 family members. Can anyone recommend a seafood restaurant for Friday night that is in the vicinity of where we%26#39;ll be staying. We%26#39;d like a very casual, good seafood place to go....';shack'; type if you will. Thank you!
seafood ';shack'; restaurant rec.If you don%26#39;t mind a bit of a spin on rte 195, you can go to the Old Grist Mill Tavern in Seekonk, which has been operating since 1745 -- it%26#39;s not a shack but you don%26#39;t have to get all dressed up, clean slacks %26amp; nice tops for the ladies are OK, %26amp; it is very pretty %26amp; has good food--- check out the reviews on the restaurant pages of TA. 390 Fall River Ave (rte 114A). You would get on rte 195, go west, %26amp; I believe you would get off at exit 1, just before you cross into RI. Go north on 114 A; it%26#39;s on the R.
For a genuine seafood shack, but with more driving, ';Davy%26#39;s Locker 1480 East Rodney French Boulevard, New Bedford, MA 02740, 508-992-7359.';
They have really good food--however you would have to drive E on 195 to New Bedford. Use Google Maps for directons. Rodney French Blvd goes around the peninsula that is the southern end of the city. This place is on the east side of that peninsula. Great water views too.
And then there is Chad%26#39;s--much closer, no pretty views -- they say their food is good though. http://chadschowderhouse.com/ THis is probably the place you are hoping for---but don%26#39;t forget the Grist Mill for that celebration dinner with the grad! Very pretty place for that kind of thing.
seafood ';shack'; restaurant rec.My grandmother used to be at the Clifton Nursing Home at 500 Wilbur Ave across the street there was a great little Seafood hut and ice cream. No seats inside but a few tables outside. I think this is the name of the place. The location looks correct.

Yes BCC, that%26#39;s the place. I live about 10 miles north of there and actually recommended Big Fish as a place this poster should consider on the Rhode Island Forum. I haven%26#39;t been there in a while and I%26#39;m trying to remember if they even have enough outdoor seating for a party of 12. I remember it%26#39;s a no frills place with good seafood and outdoor seating only. It%26#39;s right down the street from the Quality Inn.
They did say they were looking for the shack atmosphere. I think the Quality Inn is where we stayed for my Grandmother%26#39;s funeral. If so there is a nice grassy area in the middle of all the rooms with a Gazebo too. Could always bring the food back with them and have a picnic. The Fish place had some great portugese influences and flavor too.
I%26#39;m Irish but I love Portuguese food. The Fall River area is loaded with great places.
Yeah, we%26#39;re Yankee mutts but my Dad grew up in Swansea. My grandmother wasn%26#39;t much of a cook so we always got our fill of clam fritters, Chirzo and Sweet bread when we visited. Nothing yummier than toasted sweet bread with butter. Mmmmmm.
Massa Sovada!
ROTFLMAO I crack myself up. I saw your post and said...Um...must be something you eat. I have been eating sweet bread for over 30 years and never had a clue it had a real name. I goggled and lo and behold. Massa sovada, Portuguese sweet bread. Learn something new everyday :) Thanks!
