I love food, so expect a few more threads about food from me over the coming weeks before my trip to Boston.
I found something online about the Summer Shack having a clam bake (clams, mussels, lobster, chorizo, corn, potatoes) and that looks right up my alley.
Are there any other places that have a clam bake that is better and/or cheaper? The reviews for Summer Shack aren%26#39;t superb on TA, so I%26#39;m wondering if there is something better.
Thanks!
Clam Bake?
Take a look at this little article on the Chowhound site blog:';Amuse Bouche: What%26#39;s Up With Clambakes?';
(Scroll about half-way down this page to find it:
http://blogs.menupages.com/boston/2007/07/)
It mentions several local restaurants, but cautions ';We see ';clambake'; on menus with some regularity, but obviously, those are plates of seafood rather than true clambakes. A real clambake takes place on the beach.'; Perhaps this accounts for the reviews of even Jasper%26#39;s clambake.
Enjoy (where ever you go)
Clam Bake?
It won%26#39;t be a true clambake experience, but the Barking Crab will serve you the same thing as Legal%26#39;s or Summer Shack for less money.
Are you going down to the Cape at all??? There are some great places down there with ';REAL'; clambakes... when will you be here??
whats your timeline?, where u stayin?
Sounds interesting.
Did any of you ever do a fish boil? Something that is very popular in Door County Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan?
Never did a fish boil. We do have clam boils here which are similar to clam bakes. A large pot with a few inches of water or beer with a colander pot set inside of it to ';steam'; the clams and other goodies. I think the clam boil name comes from the fact that the water or beer is boiling, but the steam is actually cooking the food. I would think a fish boil would make the fish fall apart?

You are right :)
I myself only did the fish boil once. Just because ';you have to';.
I did not enjoy the fish, it was kinda blah. But the whole event is what people do it for. It goes back a long way. They have been doing this for years up there. Way before my time. All gather round the big fire and pot and drop the basket in the boiling water. Silly, but of course there is drinking and socializing involved. LOL
Only one day to Boston for me. yeah
weather looks good for us
Have you heard of a place called
Red Fez Restaurant and Patio
Friday I have a welcome to Boston party there to attend. How is the place?
Hey Teena, the same idea goes along with clambakes or boils here in New England. Usually in the summer, with lots of cold beers and company to enjoy the festivities.
The Red Fez- The only thing I know is it%26#39;s down on Washington Street in the South End and it serves up middle eastern cuisine. It was quite the place back in the 60%26#39;-70%26#39;s then closed for 20 or so years. It opened back up in the early 2000%26#39;s and I have never been there.
You must be getting excited! One more day to go. I haven%26#39;t checked the weather. I know today and tomorrow look nice. Enjoy your trip back to Boston.
thanks I am sure we will. I hope the Brewers give the Sox%26#39;s a run for my money. LOL
We are in the pavilion club. the one with the waiter service at the seats. Looking forward to it. and the Brewery tour we were told about.
Other then that no final plans. But LOTS OF GOOD IDEAS FROM ALL OF YOU.
Teena
Who are the Brewers anyways? Oh yeah, that team from Milwaukee with Prince Fielder on it, lol. The Sox are shaking knowing those dudes are coming to town! In all seriousness, enjoy the game.
The Harpoon Brewery: Why would a couple of people from Wisconsin want to do a brewery tour? LOL! Don%26#39;t forget, it%26#39;s not an actual tour, but a tasting. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll enjoy that much more! Have a Growler for me!
