Girl trip getaway--need help, please!

My best friend and I are trying to plan a trip to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard in June. It%26#39;s kind of a short notice, ';we need a break!'; kinda thing. :o) We%26#39;ve looked at reviews, did some research, and are still unsure about a lot. We haven%26#39;t settled on ANYTHING because the information overload is a bit overwhelming. So, I was hoping I could give you guys some info and you could help out--I%26#39;ve browsed the threads here and they are a wealth of knowledge.

1. We%26#39;re 30 year old females--we don%26#39;t mind sharing a room in a hotel. Our price range would be $180 to $200/night. Is that even possible in the first couple weeks of June? Yikes!

2. We wouldn%26#39;t be driving there. We were going to fly from Philadelphia and take public transportation/taxis to wherever we needed to go from there. I have no idea how far Cape Cod is from an airport. *sigh*

3. Really, how feasible is it for us to take the ferry over and /walkbike/taxi/bus it to wherever we want to go? What would be a good part of town to do this in?

4. This trip is for relaxing. We%26#39;d like to find a spa for a massage, we love flea markets and festivals, we love good food, and we%26#39;d love some great wine. Any suggestions for that?

I%26#39;d really appreciate any information you can give--even if it%26#39;s just a link. We%26#39;re going to need all the help we can get! Thank you!

Hi, it is do-able! You can fly to either Logan in Boston or TF Green in Providence RI. You can get a bus to Woods Hole for the ferry - here is a link:

A reasonably-priced, centrally-located place to stay is Edgartown Commons:

You will find all the pampering you need in Edgartown - spas, good restaurants, shopping. There are also many options for public transportation once on the island. It is wonderful place for a girl%26#39;s get-away!

Sure you can do it. Between your feet, a bike and the transit system, you can get around just fine. Definitely stay in Oak Bluffs or Edgartown for more nightlife. The rest of the towns are dry towns. There should be plenty of places within your budget in both towns. The ferry over takes 45 minutes and costs $14 each for roundtrip tickets. I think the bus on the Vineyard is $2 each way or you can buy a pass to save money. TF Green [Providence] airport is 85 miles from the Cape. Boston is 75 miles. The bus from Boston is cheaper and get%26#39;s you to Wood%26#39;s Hole an hour faster. Fly into Providence if it will save you instead of Boston. Have fun.

I am not sure where the spas are on the island, but the most ';high end'; town is Edgartown. So I would focus on staying there if you can. Note that only Oak bluffs and Edgartown have liquor -- the rest of the island is DRY (i.e. the town of Vineyard Haven and the smaller towns). There is a large hotel in Edgartown which might have some kind of spa -- the Harbor View, I think it%26#39;s called. It%26#39;s probably too expensive to stay there, but it is worth visiting, by walking or on your bikes -- great view, and near a little lighthouse.

Last time I went to MV, we stayed at the Clarion Hotel in Edgartown. It%26#39;s not historic, it%26#39;s just a new modern hotel. But we thought it was fine -- big nice bathroom, two big beds in the room, nothing broken, nothing ';weird';. I think it%26#39;s relatively affordable. If you are a member of AAA, check out the AAA newsletter or their website for deals. That is how we first tried this hotel, with a AAA package, last year. The hotel is on the main road leading in to Edgartown, but it%26#39;s tucked in among some trees, and there is really nothing wrong with it. It is about a 6 minute walk from the harbor and the very center of the ';downtown'; in Edgartown.

You already found out from the previous posts that you can take the bus from Logan Airport, which takes you to Woods Hole on Cape Cod, then you just walk on any ferry you want. Just so you know, there are also airports in Hyannis (Cape Cod) and on Martha%26#39;s Vineyard itself. The most likely carrier is ';Cape Air'; if they are still around. There are also ferries that go to the island from other localities, like New Bedford, Mass (I think -- I%26#39;ve never done it) and from Falmouth, Mass (on Cape Cod).

It is not necessary to have a car on M.V. There will be some places you probably won%26#39;t visit without a car, but there are really 3 ways to get to most spots in M.V. without a car: (1) rent a bike -- the bike trails are very good, and are almost always totally separate from the road, plus most of the island is fairly flat, (2) public bus has regular runs between towns, (3) there are taxis, too, and you can certainly catch one as soon as you come in on the ferry.

Have fun -- it%26#39;s a beautiful place!
