Dates to avoid March 2009

Hi there, im in the very early stages of planning a trip to DC, Boston %26amp; NYC. Is there any dates that should be avoided in March 2009, with regards to increased hotel prices etc? Im flexible with my dates and can travel anytime March or April. Planning on staying in each city for 3 nights.

Thanks in advance,

Caroline

Dates to avoid March 2009

St Patricks day is March 17th. We have a great celebration, particullarly at the bars. That%26#39;s enither an attraction or deterant depending on how you look at it. W hotel will be opening a new luxury hotel in the Boston theater district in March 2009, not sure of the hype around that, if any. Also the flower show is a treat March 14-22 in South Boston. Since you only have 3 days with us I would say stick to the Main city but if you are a flower lover it is a great event and they are usually open until late at night if you want to visit in the evening. www.masshort.org Enjoy!

You may want to avoid coming Easter Sunday (April 12th) as some of the historic sites, etc. are closed that day. Also Patriots day holiday in 2009 is on Monday April 20th. The Boston Marathon is also run this day and there are some street closures in town. Most historic sites and shopping are open on Patriots Day (only state govt, schools and some private Boston business are closed).

You%26#39;ve gotten great advice.

Just wanted to add that in March both Boston and New York can be %26#39;Wintery%26#39;. The cherry blossoms in Washington DC are spectacular (but attract a crowd). They usually peak in early April. You may want to post on te DC forum for more info on that.

Also, if you want to be here for Patriots%26#39; Day/Marathon weekend, be aware that reasonably priced hotel rooms run out fast.

I%26#39;d go further and say to avoid 17-21 April, unless you particularly want to see the marathon, for the reason cited above: ~30,000 participate, and many accompany them. Accommodation is dear.
