I am playing with the idea of hiring a stretch limo during our holiday. Rates in Boston are better than in NYC and it is probably a better city to hire in.
I have looked at several sites. I would like to ask recommendations about the companies, the vehicle and where to take it to. I hope I have made my query clear, it has got a bit complex.
Point One:
http://www.1-bostonlimo.com/ has a VIP limo, this is slightly smaller than their stretch limo. They have it for a 3 hour minimum at only $60 + 20% sucharge, which is well within my budget.
Slightly bigger and a little more over the top in terms of %26#39;not in the least bit green%26#39; which is not my style is a stretch limo. 4 hour minimum, $65 an hour.
these 2 had no mention of colour,
Boston Chauffeur
bostonchauffeur.com/RatesPolicies.html#limo
had black and white, 6 seater stretch at $65 no mention of minimum.
Has anyone had any experience with either company
Point two:
Advice I need, as I am not a car specialist, is ...
can anyone tell me if the VIP limo ticks the box in terms of being a ';stretch limo'; or should we get the bigger one. I don;t want them to tell me I have gone to the effort of booking it and it is not really a ';stretch limo';.
Point three:
We are staying at Jury%26#39;s during the last days of July. Realistically we would want a car trip during Sunday 27th - Weds 30th July.
Options I could consider
Getting us to Provincetown mid morning on Sunday does this give us traffic problems which make the fast ferry a better option?
Using a limo to get us to Lexington/Concord or Salem (I think the girls will prefer this) and we could get ourselves back
I am sure these trips would not use up our 3 hours rental time, can anyone suggest a route to extend the journey a little bit and make it worthwhile.
Hire the car to pick us up from the hotel with our suitcases to get us to Logan airport on the Wednesday in time for a 16.30 departure (so if it was a 3 hour reservation - we would have to get to airport by 14.00/14.30, picked up at 11.00/11.30, where could we go to use up that 3 hours and have a good end to the holiday, but be going somewhere that would not put us at risk of getting stuck in traffic and missing our flight (we are fanatical early arrivers at the airport)
getting to the airport - limo hire
I am still here playing with ideas, and answering my own postst. (How sad is that ???)
I wonder how this sounds to those of you who know the area, go to Salem in a limo via Lexington and Concord. On my Google earth that journey looks as if it would take about an hour, then some stops to take photos on the way. I have gathered from previous posts that it is fairly pretty out there. I do not think we have time to include both trips. I do not think that I need to spend a lot of time seeing the places in detail, I would just like to get there and see them. If we left the hotel at about 10.00, we could arange to be dropped off in Salem at lunch time and I am sure we could find a few things to do in the afternoon before making our way back by train.
getting to the airport - limo hire
Is there a specific reason you need a limo instead of a smaller vehicle? The reason I ask is because most celebrities, VIPs, and business people use smaller town cars or SUVs to get around in the Boston area. I do know that Boston Chauffeur is frequently by people in my building and have heard no complaints, but I haven%26#39;t personally used them.
the reason I would hire it would be absolutely for effect.
The girls watch lots of american celebrity tv and see scenes of stars and wanabee stars getting taken around in a stretch limo. We don%26#39;t have such cars in Gibraltar, we are a very tiny city of narrown streets.
They have had friends been treated on trips to the states with a stretch limo to or from the airport.
I suppose I could contact the hotel to see if they could arrange a simple single limo journey to the airport. Does that sound more realistic/ reasonable than burning up fuel all around the countryside ?
I am getting vibes that Bostonians do not act like they do in LA tv shows.
I hired a stretch limo to take my wife%26#39;s Italian cousins (and us) from the airport in Baltimore to our hotel Washington, D.C. - they loved it, not least of all because it was being driven by a black man (very exciting).
Most stretch limos in Massachusetts are hired for proms and also for weddings, and sometimes for kids%26#39; birthday parties. There are even stretch Hummers - I don%26#39;t know how you hire one but I see them parked in places like Salisbury, MA.
It wouldn%26#39;t make a lot of sense to go from Lexington/Concord to Salem in one trip. I don%26#39;t really approve of visiting Salem in any case - it%26#39;s an extremely touristy and tacky commercialization of a human tragedy (not that I%26#39;ve ever really been there). Of course if tacky and over-the-top is what you are looking for then renting a stretch limo for Salem is probably appropriate.
Me ...tacky and over the top ... no I don%26#39;t think so.
I want exciting and memorable - last big family holiday before eldest struggles free and goes off with her friends on trips, so it is fairly important to me.
Maybe the airport idea is better then ? I couldn%26#39;t see a place to order the stretch for a short journey. I have e mailed a couple of companies anyway.
Limousine Eighteen out of Burlington is very good.

I%26#39;m not exactly sure what you mean by: ';I am getting vibes that Bostonians do not act like they do in LA tv shows.';
If you are looking for a stretch limo just for effect, that%26#39;s fine, but Boston is pretty much the opposite of LA. While you certainly see limos out and about in Boston, they are generally only used for special occasions such as the Symphony or Theatre shows. I just want to warn you that if you pull up everywhere in Boston in a stretch limo, you may not always recieve the effect you are looking for. I don%26#39;t think a stretch limo could even make it down the narrow, crowded streets of Provincetown and I%26#39;m pretty sure people there would consider it gauche. I would definitely avoid the Hummer limo they have. In my opinion, you are more likely to be jeered than cheered in Ptown and probably in Boston in that vehicle.
What is important is going to be the effect, and hopefully the happiness, it will bring to your family. In which case, as I said before, I know of several people who have used Boston Chauffeur previsously and had no complaints.
If you choose to go by car to the Cape (Ptown) on Sunday avoid coming back towards Boston between 2 and 7 Pm to avoid traffic. You shouldn%26#39;t have any problems on the way down. Alternatively, you can take the ferry, especially if you are only looking to go to Provincetown. It%26#39;s a nice enjoyable ferry ride with some great views of Boston, the South Shore and the tip of Cape Cod.
Perhaps I am misreading your post, but let me do a little ';sanity check';. When the limo companies say a ';three hour minimum';, it is three continuous hours, not an hour here and an hour there, which is kind of how your post looked to me.
Secondly, I%26#39;m having a lot of doubt that the stretch limos are costing $65 an hour. When you add the cost of gas to the cost of the driver, etc., that seems out of line to me. I hope you do have the right rate, but I would specifically ask the question if that is ';all-inclusive'; or are there other charges that might surprise you.
To answer your specific question, going from Provincetown on a Sunday morning shouldn%26#39;t be a problem. However, it%26#39;s a 3 hour drive and I would presume you%26#39;ve got to ';cover'; the return trip as well, which would make it 6 hours!
Hope none of these issues prove troublesome for you.

I am getting vibes that Bostonians do not act like they do in LA tv shows.
LOL. this reminds me of the eighties when relatives visited from Europe and, at that time, Dynasty was a very popular tv show over there. They were quite disappointed that the women in Boston weren%26#39;t overly made up, over dressed, spoiled creatures who slapped one another around then stormed down the street throwing their fur coats over their shoulder.
Boston has a very different mindset than LA. People here who have a lot of money are not very obvious about it.
Going to Salem or Provincetown in a stretch limo would psoe some problems. many of the streets are narrow. The main street in Provincetown, Commercial Street, is extremely narrow and often crowded with pedestrians. A compact car has trouble navigating it on a busy weekend. The ferry is a much better choice and it offers some great views of Boston and some of the Harbor Islands as well as a beautiful view of PTown as it pulls in.
My vibes comment was a tactful way of saying %26#39;oh you are conservative are you?%26#39;.
I am not looking for LA, I suppose I will need to go to LA for that, a few legal firms and a bit of Zach and Cody are more what we are expecting.
And Orion, the money I own is not obvious at all, just like your description of Bostonians, I have no obvious money. Just wanted to make sure you knew. The queen of England is well known for reusing elastic bands, I ,being English, also have a stack of them in a special place in my office.
Alanm, by my second post I hope you got the idea that the sanity check was self-starting. My first impression from the websites was that the only way to hire a stretch (which some people clearly do do in Boston or they would not be in business) was to hire for 3 hours, so the initial brain wave was to say ';let%26#39;s do a trip we intended anyway but get there by limo rather than public transport and we get back on our own as we always intended';. It would have seemed silly to hire a limo for 3 hours to do a journey from Jury%26#39;s to Logan.
Since I see that a single airport trip is possible, that journey now sense.
It will be given the same status as a 16th/50th/80th Birthday, anniversary/graduation in our family album. We do not have stretch limos here (probably only a matter of time) so we cannot use one on those occasions, so why not give ourselves the treat whilst in US and whilst we can ?
And no way would I go in a Hummer - I really do not like the design. Sorry to offend any Hummer fans. Just my opinion.
