Need Driving Directions to Leave Boston and head to Cape

We%26#39;ll be picking up our rental car at Enterprise in Pru. Ctr. on Sat. June 7 at noon and will be heading immediately to the Cape. What%26#39;s the best way on a Saturday to go? Mapquest and Googlemaps gave 2 answers, one was to take Boyleston east until you can catch 93 South, the other was to head down Mass. Ave., connect to a couple other streets (don%26#39;t have the details in front of me)and get on 93 well to the south of the Mass. Tpke/93 junction.

Bostonians (that drive), what would you suggest?

Thanks.

Mark

I%26#39;d do Mass Ave...

Need Driving Directions to Leave Boston and head to Cape

Take Boylston eastbound to Arlington St. Right onto Arlington which slightly bears left after about a mile and becomes Herald St. Jump on 93 South right from Herald. Follow 93 South about 8 miles and be sure to be in your left two lanes. The exit for route 3 to the Cape is a left exit off 93.

Follow Will007%26#39;s advice or advice to take Boylston St. east to I93. It changes name to Essex St. at Washington St, but is a straight thru shot to 93 and will not be too congested on Sat. Don%26#39;t bother with Mass Ave. route, especially as Boylston St. is one way heading away from Mass. Ave.

Sounds like someone has driven that route a few times.

I%26#39;ll have to try the Boylston route next time, I%26#39;ve been avoiding it for the last decade (literally) due to all the Big Dig construction in and around the area that routinely clogged downtown traffic....the construction which I presume is finally semi-ancient history.

Are the 93 route signs reasonably well marked along the way for the assistance of tourists unfamiliar with the area?

Once you cross over the Pike, you can see the xway. When you get to The Herald, stay in the left lane but the two left lanes are for the 93 on ramp. The signs are well marked.

This is a good way and only way I go. But, when grid lock happens, one can sit here forever. Stay the course when it does, all the other routes will be bad as well.

Hmmmm, interesting. Would never have considered this approach to the 93. Is this to avoid any possible backups or issues using the O%26#39;Neill Tunnel?

Just to throw a wrench in things, here%26#39;s what I%26#39;d do: Straight down Boylston, left on Charles, right on Beacon up past the State House, left on Bowdoin - down and across Cambridge Street onto New Chardon and hit 93 south at the Congress Street/Haymarket interchange. This cuts essentially right through the Back Bay and up over Beacon Hill in no time.

Just my humble opinion; your mileage may vary.

Beans: We need to get you back here for a bit. You are starting to sound like a tourist.

Once you go left..you are going away from the direction you wish to be. This case the direction being South/The Cape.

Your way is great if you want North, but even then I would go left on Berkeley. Berkeley goes all the way to Storrow...Storrow to 93. But the way you posted is a great way to get to logan via the Callahan.

By the way...There is a wine question on The New Port thread. You being out there in wine country, I would be interested in your thought.
