I would like to take a day trip to Rockport and Gloucester. I will be staying just outside of boston in norwood area. would like to know what would be the best routes to take would like to make a stop in glocester to see Eastern point lighthouse,waterfront area,then on to Rockport with stops at Halibut Point, Bearskin Neck, and Paperhouse.also will I have trouble finding parking.
Directions Day tripWhen will you be here? ... parking will be no problem tomorrow but could be challenging on a Saturday in July.
Directions Day tripEasiest from Norwood is to get onto Route 95 north. Route 95 is also route 128 for most of the time. Where it splits from Route 128 in Peabody, follow 128. The road becomes two lanes.
Follow 128 to its end, going over the Anasquam River bridge and around two rotaries as you get into Gloucester (continuing as straight as possible out of each rotary).
As you come down the hill to the traffic light, you would turn left (rt 127/Eastern Ave.)to go to Rockport. (Finding parking in Rockport on the weekends takes time.)
For Eastern Point, continue straight, to the next light. The major part of the fishing harbor area is to your right.
For Eastern Point, go straight, past the corner with the pizza parlor, past a playground on the water, the inner harbor, the boatyard, the Playhouse, etc.,---stop to see Rocky Neck Art Colony off on a little peninsula on the right, look for the sign--- until you reach Niles Beach (parking for residents at beachside).
At the end of the beach is a small private road, with a guard on the weekends to whom you must state your intent to go to the lighthouse. Follow the road past all the houses, the museum and the yacht club, all the way to the end where there is a small parking lot and a trail to the lighthouse and the jetty.
When you come out, if you turn right and go up the hill and follow the coast (Atlantic Road), you can pick up route 127A, running along the coast, which also gets you to Rockport.
Have fun.
Nice directions by tcanterelli. You better print them out or write them down zeetraveler.
';will I have trouble finding parking.';
Depends when you plan to visit. Parking is fairly easy until 10:30a.m. most days. Probably the easiest solution for parking is to park at the town lot. The trolley to town is only $1 each way, make sure you have exact change.
The lot at Eastern Point can fill up on busy summer days, too, so it%26#39;s best to arrive early.
