What do people wear when they go eat at a pizza place in the north end? Harvard square? Freedom trail?
What do people wear when they tour the north end
I%26#39;ll take this post at face value, even though I%26#39;ll admit it seems a bit unusual.
They wear casual clothes, whatever is comfortable to them and their sense of style.
What do people wear when they tour the north end
I guess I should be more specific. If you plan to go to a fun pizzeria or pub type place in the north end or near Harvard, is it dress to impress, or just whatever?
Honestly, for those three endeavors, whatever they feel like wearing. No need to dress up at all. Usually jeans or shorts with a casual shirt or top. The most important thing to wear is comfortable shoes or sneakers for walking around.
I understand your question better now.
The thing you need to understand is that most people in the northeast don%26#39;t dress up very often, ';dress to impress'; isn%26#39;t the prevailing mode, except in certain upscale bars/hotels/restaurants/business situations where that is expected.
If anything, a place like Harvard Square will resemble the funky sense of style you might find, for instance, on the UC Berkeley campus in California.
In Harvard Square you could have purple hair, wear a bathrobe with a fedora and dress shoes and hardly get a second glance.
I%26#39;ve seen a guy wearing exactly the outfit you described.... no joke.
You only need to be concerned about a dress code if you going someplace upscale. Pizza in the North End or a pub in the downtown area or Harvard Sq. would be casual. And yes, comfortable walking shoes are important. If you intend to do a nice tour of the entire North End (and you shoudl if you have the time and opportunity), you will do a lot of walking.
Yes...most places you%26#39;ll see a range. Harvard Square, the range expands---and I too have seen that outfit in Cambridge, only it was a green robe, paired with combat boots.
The North End, Newbury Street, Downtown...you%26#39;ll see everything from very casual to dress casual to more formal. The work crowd is obviously dressed for corporate dress codes. Fancy restaurants and clubs have dress codes. Other than that, it%26#39;s whatever you prefer. For some folks, casual is jeans, t-shirts, and running shoes. Others are more corporate casual. Really, it%26#39;s not something to think twice about.
You will never go wrong wearing casual shorts and a polo shirt with a Red Sox, Patriot or Celtic logo.
