Friday May 9
Awoke to relentless rain.
Had a wonderful breakfast at B%26amp;B and got lots of tips from Roland on which roads to take.Drove down Ocean Drive and then drove past the mansions.Really wanted to do the cliff walk as it looked spectacular but weather was a bit too much.
Then made our way up to the Cape and drove along the 6A which is much better and interesting than taking the 6.Stopped for a spot of lunch at a lovely tea room called The Optimist which did tea and sandwiches.
Because of time and weather turned around and went back up to Plymouth. The Mayflower looked amazing and Plymouth looked like a good place to spend an afternoon but due to weather carried on in the car and went to the Indepenence Mall where I actually found a Giants T shirt for my son.I thought that would be impossible because we were in Patriots country.
Back in Boston we checked back into Jurys. We had been upgraded to a kingsize room and I had my tub.Great.
While I soaked in tub husband took rental car back to Avis which was great as it was only two minutes walk away.
Unfortunately,I started to feel ill and so we spent another of our precious nights in the room.Though later we ordered room service and had a lovely meal wheeled into us and ate in the room.
Saturday 10th May
Walked over to Paramount on Chuch Street for a delicious breakfast.
Got the T to Harvard and spent far too much time in the Coop bookstore where we found a Superbowl programme for son.
Wandered around for a while then got the T back and walked down Hanover Street and got some Italian goodies, oil, balsamic and parmesan in a great Italian deli.
Went into Mikes and was blown away by the choice. My husband would not go in because he wanted to wait until later.
Went back to hotel for a bit then went shopping down Newbury Steet.
I recommend Filenes and Marshalls for anyone wanting to buy any luggage to take back all their goodies.
Today my husband and I had been married six months so wanted to go somewhere nice-We got married in the Keys last November and I still have not done my trip report from then-but we had not booked a table anywhere.
We could not geta table anywhere until after 10pm so after looking on the net I phoned Ristorante Saraceno. They had a table, which strangely made me suspicious.
Arrived at restaurant to be shown up to second floor, which is out the front and up a flight of stairs from the street.
The staff seemed very nice but the decor was very kitsch.I wanted to leave but my husband was so hungry I think it would have been divorce if I had left.We ordered some wine which was not cheap compared to what we had been having in other places and ordered.I thought that I would give the place a go and maybe the food would be good.Wrong.
We had the same starter of mozzarella, tomato and peppers and it did not taste of anything. It was so bad.My main cours was not too bad and my husbands tomato sauce was very good.
We then left to go to Mikes and the queue was unbelievable. So we left.I was not happy.
Will finish off report tomorrow. But top tip to everyone.
Please make sure that you book a table if you want to go to a particular place then you will not be disappointed.
Trip report part 2Hey Annie! I enjoyed your second installment as much as your first! Thanks for writing it. :D I%26#39;m glad you were able to find some surprises for your son. How cool is that, especially since it was so unexpected!! Loved the ';top tip to everyone';. Is that a type of ';hello';? I%26#39;m looking forward to tomorrow%26#39;s recap.
Trip report part 2These trip reports are so entertaining, Annie! I love how you write! :) Thanks for posting another one!
I am enjoying your trip reports, looking forward to part 3!
It%26#39;s a shame that so many visitors to Boston go to Mike%26#39;s and find long waits and often miss out on some great Italian pasteries and cookies when there are two other bakeries in the area that are just as good. Modern and Napoli both have a good selection and make great pasteries and cookies. They just haven%26#39;t achieved the notoriey with tourists that Mike%26#39;s has.
And for the best fresh baked bread, it%26#39;s Bova. When my grandmother didn%26#39;t bake her own, she went to Bova for bread hot out of the oven on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
Sorry your anniversary evening wasn%26#39;t so great, but the rest sounds Wonderful.
For others reading ... a modest but yummy bakery is Maria%26#39;s. They don%26#39;t have TONS on display (not lots of refrigerator space out front) but ask .. they%26#39;ve got lots of %26#39;secrets%26#39;. ;)
