Safety

Hello all,

I%26#39;ve never been on an airplane before (I know that is hard for most of you to grasp!) and, so I%26#39;m taking my first flight into Boston. The thing of it is, my flight isn%26#39;t scheduled to land at Logan until 10:20pm, I%26#39;ve already mapped out my course using the ';T'; with a wonderful gentleman at MBTA, however, I%26#39;d like to ask those of you who live in Boston, or who visit frequently, if it will be safe to be on the subway at 11pm - midnight range. I%26#39;m from Chicago, and ride our subway and el all the time, and sometimes very late, but, I%26#39;m not sure what the comparison to Boston is! I%26#39;ll be taking the Silver Line from Logan to Govn%26#39;t Center and then switching to the Green and getting off at Kenmore.

Also, I%26#39;m staying two blocks from Fenway Park, is this a safe area?

Any thoughts/feedback/help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!

Cin :)

Safety

Hey Cin,

Boston is a very safe city. Just use your normal ';city awareness'; when traveling alone at night.

I would strongly suggest spending the $30 on a cab to your hotel. It%26#39;s much faster and conveient than taking the T into town. It%26#39;s your call. If you prefer to spend the $2 to take the T to your hotel, then go for it. Nobody is going to bother you on the blue or green lines getting to your hotel. Just know that if your flight is late and you get out of the airport later than expected that the T shuts off service around 12:30am. You need to figure that into not only the blue line from the Airport to Gov%26#39;t Center, but also from Gov%26#39;t Center to your hotel. I would do the cab and then use the T for all your traveling around the city.

The area around Fenway is considered safe. There%26#39;s a bunch of BU students living around there. Where are you staying? Do you need suggestions for your stay or do you have everything figured out?

If you%26#39;re arriving late at night with lugguage in hand, I would recommend taking a taxi. This is not a safety concern, but for convenience. Fare will be around $35.

Some areas around Fenway Park are pretty dsolate at night, so you%26#39;ll have to be more specific. Where are you staying?

Thank you both so much! Is it easy to catch a cab from Logan? If so, I will take that route, sounds like the best thing to do, plus, I think I%26#39;ll be dog tired!

I%26#39;m actually staying at a residence hall that%26#39;s part of BU. I%26#39;ll only be in Boston for a full day, mostly to visit Harvard Square, Harvard Med School and I%26#39;m still trying to put together an itinerary if I have time for anything else! I wish I had more time, I would love to see the Pops! In any case, whatever I do, I will only be using public transportation....so, I%26#39;m going to base my schedule on places that are easy to walk to or accessible by foot! I love walking, and am an avid runner to boot!

I recommend that you get a cab, not because of safety but because of reality. Your plane arrives at 10:20 PM but by the time you get off the plane and collect your check in baggage, it will be a lot later. Trains in Boston slow down after hours so even if you catch the last blue line train you might not be able to catch the green line train on time. Take the T during your stay and even when you go back to the Airport to return to Chicago. But due to your late arrival, I agree with the others to take a cab.

Yes, there will be plenty of cabs at the airport to whisk you away.

Sorry you only have a short stay in Boston. It%26#39;s really a fantastic city to check out. My guess is you will be very tied up with Harvard and the Med school for much else. A run through the Esplanade is a must for any runner. It is right at your doorstep at BU.

Travel to and from Harvard is a piece of cake. Take the green line inbound to Park Street and transfer to the red line to Harvard. I%26#39;m sure you know this already if you%26#39;ve been talking to the folks at the MBTA.

Sorry, I was typing as you were replying. Boston is walkable, you will be able to do the rest either by foot or by the T. Enjoy your stay in Boston.

Remay, thanks! I%26#39;m glad to hear it will be easy to see most by foot!

Will, I will definitely schedule an early morning run through Esplanade!

Thanks! I hope it%26#39;s at least an enjoyable exploration...so a return (longer) trip is in the near future!!

Thanks again to you all!

Cin :)
