One day stay in M.V.

My husband %26amp; I will be coming to MV early June after we are at Newport. We will be catching a ferry over and my first thought was to rent mopeds, any thoughts on that? I was also hoping to stay overnight and plan a romantic suprise for my husband, any thoughts where to stay or dine? Not big on the b%26amp;b thing, but still looking for that quainteness factor. I%26#39;ve heard good things about Larsen%26#39;s for a romantic/fun dinner date, any other suggestions?

Also is it possible by moped to visit Oak Bluffs, Edgartown %26amp; Menemsha in one day, I don%26#39;t know how close everything is. Looking to just be a tourist ( surprise suprise!) and see the beauty of MV.

One more thing, I heard from my friend who lives in norhtern Mass that there are not a lot of places open in MV due to lack of people being hired is that true? Thanks so much for any %26amp; all help, I appreciate it!!

One day stay in M.V.

Im going to start from the bottom and work my way up:

1.)most stores and restaurants close after labor day weekend and are opened up for the summer in April. By June everything should be open for the season. The college kids working on mv are out of school and at their jobs already. I was there last weekend and all the stores were open, even ice cream parlors.

2.)I like the idea of seeing those three towns as they each have their own personality and are so different that you will want to experience them all. You can do this by moped but I would not suggest it. They can only go like 35 mph and hold up traffic. You travel on the normal roads and it can be quite dangerous for all motorists. Once on the island you%26#39;ll notice the many cars sporting ';mopeds are dangerous'; bumber stickers. I would suggest getting an open top Jeep that they rent out at the same places as mopeds. You will be able to see everything but be a little bit safer.

3.)Oak Bluffs and Edgartown are five minutes from each other but it will take about 30 minutes or more to get to Menemsha because they are all windy country roads.

4.)Larsen%26#39;s is a fish market. It is not a romantic place. My best suggestion would be ';Sweet Life Cafe'; in OB. Its right on the main street, Circuit Ave. and has some of the best food in a romantic enviroment.

5.) for hotels I like the Harbor View (www.harbor-view.com) or the Wesley (www.wesleyhotel.com). Best is kelley house: www.kelley-house.com

Thank you so much for all the info, very helpful! I%26#39;m going to finish up planning my trip sometime today, couple more questions hopefully if you have time.

Can we rent the Jeep once we get there or is that something you do ahead of time? The ferry is landing in Oak Bluffs so will we be able to find a place once we get there?

Do you need a map to get around MV or is it best to just drive and %26#39;happen upon stuff%26#39;

Also, I guess in my head when I was describing Larsen%26#39;s for romantic ( calling a fish market romantic does sound silly!) I had read other posts where people were talking about getting lobster and eating it on the beach but I%26#39;m going to google the resturants you had named. Thank you thank you thank you so much again for your help!

if you%26#39;re going in June I dont think that you need to rent the Jeep ahead of time. Once you get off of the feery if you walk straight for maybe 1/10 of a mile there is a big car rental place on the same street across from the harbor. You cant miss it.

Oak Bluffs is a little less confusing than Vineyard Haven but if you dont know where anyhting is it may be a challenge. Having a general idea is always helpful and its a pretty big island, so yes i would suggest getting a map, especially if you plan on going up- island to the less crowded areas. Also, they know that tourists have no idea where they are going and have signs indicating the direction of the other towns at many intersections.

Also if youre looking for the romantic beachy thing may i suggest heading up- island to Menemsha and getting take out from the clam shack or other ';to go'; crestaurants up there and watching the sunset from the beach/ jetty?

hope thats helpful
