Martha's Vineyard Day Trip

We are going to Cape Cod in early July and are planning a day trip to MV. We are staying in Chatham. Is it best to get the ferry from Hyannis or drive the extra distance to Falmouth for a shorter ferry ride? Is there much differnce in time %26amp; price of ferry? Or is there a better ferry option?

it really depends on your budget and time, the Steamship Authority out of Falmouth (Woods Hole) is the fastest, cheapest way over but of course you have to drive down to Falmouth from Chatam. We always choose that option when staying in Brewster because it just makes sense for us. You can get the ferry from Hyannis - and you have a couple of options - one is like a ';cruise'; - the other is fast %26amp; expensive.

Steamship Authority - 45 minutes on the boat, $15 r/t You need to take into account about a 15-20 minute busride from the parking lot to the boat - parking $12.00

Hy-line - hi-speed ferry from Hyannis - 50 minutes on the boat, $63 r/t - ';Traditional'; cruise - 1 hour, 35 minutes on the boat; $39 r/t - plus a new fuel surcharge of $4.pp, r/t - parking $17.00

Obviously, the fastest (but most expensive) way over for you is the Hi-speed from Hyannis.

You can also go on the Island Queen from Falmouth, which I believe is the cheapest and the shortest ferry ride. We drive from Orleans.

Hi There, I realize that this is the MV board but, because you are staying in Chatham, I want to remind you that there is a ferry to Nantucket just one town west of you in Harwichport. The drive to the harbor is simple and parking has been free to the day trippers. Just in case you are not completely sold on going to MV which is a great idea as well.
