In our upcoming trip, we are debating on purchasing the weekly pass for $15/ea. I know we can pretty much walk to where we want to go...but,
We are staying at the colonnade and want to go to all the ';usual'; places like Quincy Market, Sox Game, Harpoon Brewery, Sam Adams, Freedom Trail, among others. I know this question would be different for each person, but right now, the only thing we know we have to ride the T for is from Logan to the hotel and the hotel to Logan (which would be $8 there)
Thanks,
Kevin
Is the weekly T pass worth it?
Hey Kevin! Don%26#39;t know what the locals think, but just from my research, you definitely need to take the T to Harpoon and Sam Adams. My boyfriend (also named Kevin) and I will be getting the weekly pass for that reason, and for the ride to Fenway.
Is the weekly T pass worth it?
I%26#39;d get the T pass, especially since you%26#39;re already going to be taking it for a couple trips anyway. Yeah, you can walk nearly everywhere in Boston, but at the end of the day you%26#39;ll be tired and it%26#39;s nice to rest your feet. You%26#39;ll also use the T more than you expect if you hit a rainy day.
Hi,
You just need to figure out the costs involved. The fare is $2.00 each way. So, you need 8 trips each, (or 4 round trips) to break even.
You definitely need the T to get to the Adams brewery and the Harpoon Brewery as well. You%26#39;d need the T to go to Harvard Sq, most likely as well.
To be honest, I think it will probably end up being a wash for you. My personal recommendation would be just to pay for round trips as you go. When you go to the ticket machine in the station, put a minimum of $4.00 on the ticket for a round trip.
Disagree with Beantownman. The weekly pass is worth it. You will use it enough. Plenty of times you might technically be within walking distance of somewhere but pooped. No need to worry about ';recharging'; charlie tickets. Just buy %26#39;em when you get here and your done. A thousand times yes, get the weekly pass.
Definitely get the weekly pass; it pays for itself after 8 rides. There are plenty of times you will be too pooped to keep walking. You also don%26#39;t want to arrive everywhere exhausted.
The Freedom Trail is a long day of walking, so start the day by taking the T from Prudential to Park St. At the end of the Freedom Trail (Bunker Hill), you will exhausted, so walk back to the TD NorthBank Center and catch the T at North Station back to Prudential.
Colonnade to Quincy Market is also very far to walk, especially since there%26#39;s a lot to see around there, and it%26#39;s all on foot.
The Colonnade is really nice, in a great location. Their Brasserie Jo restaurant is outstanding.
If you were more in the center of the Downtown, there might be some debate. But the Colonnade is on the western end of Downtown. It can be a long walk from there to the Waterfront. And especially the other way coming back at night. This way, you%26#39;ll always be able when you want. I would definately go for it.

Definitely get the passes. You can do it at the airport. The daily pass is overpriced but the weekly at $15 is a great bargain. All you need is 4 round trips in 7 days to make it worthwhile and you%26#39;ll be using one of those trips to and from the airport. If you%26#39;re in Boston an extra day or two beyond a week, then pay cash fares rather than get day passes.
I think it would be worth it. While things are walkable, if it%26#39;s raining or if you%26#39;re trying to fit a bunch of stuff into a day, you%26#39;ll want the T option and at 2- a ride, it%26#39;s easy to get to $15 in a week. The unlimited pass gives you the freedom of not having to think about how much is on your card and saves you from having to stand in line to add value to the card. Sometimes there are no lines at the machines. Sometimes the lines are long. The pass frees you from having to worry about it.
All the posters above have good reasons for you to get the pass.
Another reason is that it covers the inner harbor ferry. You can take this from Long Wharf near the Aquarium over to the Charlestown Navy yard to see USS Constitution and museum. Kind of fun way to get there and see a little bit of the harbor!
