Any alternative hotel to Cambridge Marriott?

I%26#39;d like to attend the Learning and the Brain conference MIT hosts twice annually, but the Cambridge Marriott is a bit expensive for one person, ever with the conference discount. Do you know of any very near, less expensive alternatives?

Not sure how the prices compare but you could check these nearby hotels.....Hyatt Regency, the Harvard Square Hotel, University Park Hotel, The Charles.

You could also search in nearby towns such as Somerville which have easy access to Cambridge

Hi,

The hotels listed above are all excellent options, should they fit your budget.

If you can%26#39;t find room in those hotels, in this specific instance, although I don%26#39;t normally recommend this hotel, the Hampton Inn Crosstown might be appropriate for you.

It%26#39;s a nice, newer motel, located in the South End of Boston. It%26#39;s right on the #1 busline, which will take you directly to MIT in about 20 minutes or so. It runs very frequently, and would be a convenient way to get back and forth to MIT.

My only concern would be how you feel about staying in a neighborhood that has a lot of street people and isn%26#39;t very pretty itself. If you are tolerant of the less than savory side to urban life, it might work out very nicely for you. It%26#39;s generally much cheaper than the Cambridge Marriott, as well. The motel itself is new and comfortable, so that wouldn%26#39;t be an issue.

Are you willing to stay in a smaller B%26amp;B? There are some within decent distance of Harvard and MIT

I would also look at the John Jeffries House, at the foot of Beacon Hill. I have heard, though, that other posters have had issues about their emails going unanswered so a phone call might be necessary. Just the other side of the Longfellow Bridge, it would be a 15 minute walk to MIT or 1 stop in the Red Line.

Here are a couple of lists that Harvard and MIT put together for visitors, and one additional list.
