Never been, need info

Hi all! I%26#39;m thinking of getting married in Cape Cod over Labor Day weekend. I don%26#39;t need info on that, instead I need general info about the Cape. Here are some questions:

1. Is it warm enough to swim Labor Day weekend?

2. Not to offend, but we%26#39;re not big kid people. Is there any place on the island that caters more to adults? Or maybe certain times of the year are less kid friendly?

3. Where are the best beaches on the Cape?

4. What parts of the Cape has the most activities for a large group?

5. Where is a luxury, romantic place to stay?

6. Where is a budget place to stay?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance!

Never been, need info

#1. Yes, the water is still very swimmable.

#2. Although the local school kids are either back to school or just about ready to return, there will be kids all over the Cape during Labor Day weekend.

#3. Best beaches are the National Seashore beaches (east facing beaches) and the Nantucket Sound beaches (south facing beaches)

#4. Anywhere

#5. Chatham Bars Inn, Chatham

#6. Country Acres Motel, Sandwich

Just one man%26#39;s observation...though it doesn%26#39;t really answer any of your direct questions. I am a Hyannis guy...so this is based on my observations of Hyannis regarding kids and crowds. Over the last 5-10 years or so Labor Day weekend isn%26#39;t quite what it used to be on the Cape. The crowds have been WAY down...and that means...of course...less kids. I think this has a lot to do with schools starting earlier...so people don%26#39;t stay until the traditional Labor Day weekend. I think it is a great time to get married on the Cape. ALL the restaurants and stores are still open...and IMHO the Hyannis area has the most ';activities'; for large groups of people. Because it tends to be more urban than the upper AND lower Cape...I feel it caters more to an adult demographic. Regarding beaches...well everyone has their own idea of an ideal beach. I happen to like swimming...and Craigville Beach is still plenty warm (thank you Gulf Stream!!) on Labor Day. September is a GREAT time on the Cape....especially early September. Congrats...and have a ball!!

First, just so you know, Cape Cod is not an island. It is a Cape, which is really a penisula. There are two islands off the coast: Martha%26#39;s Vineyard and Nantucket. You didn%26#39;t really intend to go to one of those, did you?

And most of the activities, which I assume means bars, restaurants, shops, etc., are most concentrated in the major towns, which includes Falmouth, Hyannis and Provincetown, although you can find all those things spread out throughout Cape Cod.

The best ';beach'; viewed by a lot of folks is the Cape Cod National Seashore. However, this is really in its natural state with dunes, etc, and no commercial places like snack shops and restaurants, so some folks might be disappointed in that they expect these ammenities. What specifically were YOU looking for?

Good points, Alanm. Choose between those three towns and you will do alright. Best beaches? Oh boy, that could start up a firestorm, eh? I vote for Corporation Beach in Dennis( I think) or Old Silver Beach in Falmouth.

Re. kids- school is in session so it is not an issue- remember the Cape is 100 miles long so you can find room to hide if you want to.

Most romantic place? The Belfry Inn or Dan%26#39;l Webster Inn,in Sandwich perhaps. Or for both romance and budget check out the Earl of Sandwich Motel in Sandwich. They have canopy beds, beautiful gardens and good prices. http://www.earlofsandwich.com/

But, consider that the water in Sandwich is cold, because it is on the bay side. Falmouth has warm water beaches and some lovely B%26amp;B%26#39;s. I like the Palmer House Inn or the Inn on the Sound or the Coonamesett Inn.

Families with Young kids...kids too little to go to school yet, are Rampant on the Cape during Labor Day weekend! It is a zoo up here that weekend! Babies everywhere and they%26#39;re crying! (Well, this is a bit of an exaggeration, but you get my point).

I%26#39;d plan my trip the week After Labor Day and enjoy a much more relaxed atmosphere. In answer to your questions:

#1: Nobody knows what the weather or water temp. will be.

#2: We might be an island one day, but not yet. Also, have you noticed that kids are always smiling at you? It seems to happen a lot to people who really aren%26#39;t ';kid'; people!

#3: Wherever you make the nicest memory or see the most fantastic sunrise/sunset or catch the biggest fish, etc. etc. etc.

#4:Golf, bike riding, shopping, dining and boating opportunities are available all over the Cape.

#5: Chatham Bars Inn or Wequassett Inn

#6: No deals during Labor Day weekend.

Thanks all, for your posts here an your private messages! I appreciate. A ton of my friends are runners, so also thinking about timing it with the Falmouth Road Race in August. Is that still around?

Right now looking at Ocean House and Old Yarmouth Inn for the wedding. Are those ';fun'; cities within a 15-20 minute drive of these locations?

you%26#39;d be closest to Hyannis with either. (Both look great BTW)
