My family and I will be coming to Rockport on Friday and were wondering if anyone could recommend a casual dining restaurant for dinner and also a nicer upscale dining restaurant.
Also, I am trying to get thesparockport.com to come up but it is not. Is there a spa someone can recoomend for a couple%26#39;s massage?
Thanks so much!
Memorial Day in Rockport
I would say that the dining room at the Emerson Inn is the most upscale in Rockport. Down the road in Gloucester, the restaurant at Bass Rocks Ocean Inn is all white tablecloths and napkins with a view of the rocks and ocean that%26#39;s marvelous. It%26#39;s in an old mansion kind of building. I haven%26#39;t had dinner there, but did have breakfast when I stayed there.
And, North Shore Trip watchers here - jsboston? - what%26#39;s the name of the one on Main Street (Gloucester), right in the middle of town, with the pale yellow theme that serves hot popovers first? I think it%26#39;s really special, all light linens. And it has an impressive imported beer menu. The waitstaff is quite good. I can never remember its name.
Memorial Day in Rockport
I%26#39;d call the Emerson Inn first if you want to go there, as they%26#39;re often ';taken over'; by weddings at this time of year. Although I don%26#39;t think they would sacrifice the place on Memorial Day weekend...
?? we have had a reservation there since March....not sure what you mean by sacrifice but your post is noninformative to say the least. You answered none of my questions but bombarded me with negativity. I hope you aren%26#39;t a reflection of the norm in Rockport.
sorry didnt%26#39; see your initial post.....thakns for the tips. We are looking forward to the trip...I hope the weather cooperates!
When I travel to Rockport, I can%26#39;t leave without getting a lobster and clam chowder from Roy Moore Lobster. It is the best lobster I have tasted. They boil them in sea water which really enhances the flavor. Eating at Roy Moore%26#39;s is about as New England and ';in the rough'; as it gets. You walk out with your food onto his back deck area and eat on the weathered crates. It%26#39;s a bit weird at first, but once you start eating the food, you forget where your sitting. The owner also has another place called The Fish Shack Restaurant. Once again, great food, casual atmosphere and more traditional seating, lol. I can%26#39;t help you with any of the upscale places, but I have heard that My Place By The Sea has a rude and arrogant female owner. I don%26#39;t know this firsthand but after reading the reviews, I was shocked at what I read. The woman is in the wrong profession and you may wish to avoid her place.
For a nice dinner I%26#39;d recommend Duckworth%26#39;s in Gloucester. Alchemy and Passport%26#39;s are also excellent choices for lunch or dinner. Latitude 43 recently opened in Gloucester, they have an extensive menu and a sushi bar. More importantly they have LOTS of seating, and also outdoor seating with a view of the harbor.
For a casual meal The Greenery in Rockport has a nice selection of sandwiches and soups. If you want really casual Top Dog has decent clams and of course--hot dogs. Many seem to like the Lobster Pool, though I haven%26#39;t been there recently. Helmut%26#39;s is a nice place to have a coffee and pastry, and there are several decent ice cream places. Some of the restaurants I used to recommend have recently changed hands and they haven%26#39;t opened for the season yet.
The Spa doesn%26#39;t have a website anymore. You can reach them at 978-546-2800.

I%26#39;d second skipping My Place, although it does have a strange almost cult like following. Imo it%26#39;s overpriced, the waitresses rude, the food beyond bland and plain.
The Lobster Pool always has been my favorite, but their prices have gotten really high. (Whose haven%26#39;t?) In addition to lobster, they have a superior - e.g., very light, super fresh - fried haddock meal (and many other things, too).

With rising gas prices I suspect we%26#39;ll see menu prices jump even higher. Many of the fishing/lobster boats use diesel which is even more expensive. Interestingly, there aren%26#39;t as many boats in the harbors as is usual for this time of year, including fishing/lobster boats. Not sure if they%26#39;re going in late or not at all.
And I didn%26#39;t even mention Woodman%26#39;s (in Ipswich, for watchers), whose fried lobster approached $30, last summer. May have to cut back to crab rolls instead of lobster rolls up your way... Blasphemy?
To your point: Are there less buoys in, too? I hope to get up this weekend, and see for myself. Too much to-ing and fro-ing on airplanes to have gotten up since mid-winter, when it%26#39;s a different place.
