Lobster Rolls -- revisited

Hi all,

I hope everybody is enjoying the spectacular weather this Memorial Day weekend :D

A while back we had a huge discussion here about Lobster Rolls. Some people were unfamiliar with them. There%26#39;s a little article in today%26#39;s Boston Globe Magazine, complete w/ a photo for those who may not be aquainted with this New England tradition.

I thought I%26#39;d let you all know. Here%26#39;s this link:

Lobster Rolls -- revisited

Great article, thanks for sharing it here, I didn%26#39;t get the chance to read the paper this week.

I%26#39;m SO glad to see Belle Isle in East Boston is on their list for great lobster rolls, because it really really is wonderful there!

Lobster Rolls -- revisited

Very informative article--I took notes. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for pointing this out. Haven%26#39;t looked at the Sunday paper yet.

Aaannny way... Coincidentally, I had an informative conversation yesterday with a chef friend and his girlfriend who peddles high-end meats to Boston-to-Worcester restaurants. They both said that Belle Isle is the best in the Boston area, head and shoulders above. It looks like the article had limited column inches, so just the briefest reviews. The key info was left out. My friends said that Belle Isle has the lobster meat just plain until you order it how you want it. The 1/2 lb. is constant, but you can have it plain, with butter, with mayonnaise, or with other seasonings and sauces. Sounds luscious.

He said that a chicken lobster yields 1/4 lb. of lobster meat, so that means Belle Isle stuffs two lobsters-worth into a roll.

Hi forgotmypword, How well I remember this thread. I have to admit my internal visual was extremely lacking when it came to the lobster roll. I%26#39;m so glad you shared this article. That picture... it looks absolutely scrumptious! How can I get to Belle Isle Seafood and how will I know how to dress it since I%26#39;ve never had a lobster roll before???

Thanks for the wonderful link!!

';how will I know how to dress it since I%26#39;ve never had a lobster roll before???';

taecher91: Coming from the land of lobster, I suggest you try both the butter way and the mayo way. I prefer them cold with mayo, but just as many like them with warm butter. My husband also mixes in secret spices (which are secret even to me) which include, among others, celery salt.

Thanks CB48. Perhaps my husband %26amp; I can each order one the ways you%26#39;ve mentioned. I%26#39;ll try both and end up with the ';best'; one. Hey, why not? The man is an eating machine. I%26#39;m sure he%26#39;ll love them either way! LOL!

Belle Isle T directions: Blue Line Outbound to Orient Heights stop. Walk half mile down Saratoga St. to Belle Isle.

There%26#39;s like 3 seats in the entire place. It%26#39;s best to eat outside by the bridge. You have to like watching airplanes as well, since this place sits directly over the final approach to Logan. The planes are literally right over your head.

I haven%26#39;t been to Belle in about 2 years and I had fried clams then. I didn%26#39;t realize it had such a great lobster roll. I%26#39;m going back soon to try one.

Teacher, you don%26#39;t have to worry about the ';dressing'; They make theirs with lobster meat and a touch of mayo, no butter there. Just order one and they%26#39;ll take care of the rest.

Final note on Belle if you go: Cash Only so forget the credit card.

We%26#39;re so there ! We go back July 12th and we thank forgotmyword from the bottom of our hearts.

Too funny. I lived in Winthrop for years, got takeout from Belle dozens of times, but never tried the lobster roll!

Here in Plymouth the best lobster roll I%26#39;ve had so far is at Wood%26#39;s Seafood on the waterfront, theirs is just a buttered bun piled with fresh lobster and a bit of mayo on the side. Delicious.
