From Ireland and hope to head to the Cape in Sept 08.Organising it now but want to know what websites offer the best information in relation to the Cape from the point of view of where to stay.I am looking for a self catering accom on the Cape near the beach
What is the weather like there at the end of Sept?
Do any of the rental propoerties have swimming pools with them or is this a complete luxury on the Cape with the sea so nearby?
Any information which will allow me to start searching is appreciated.
Best Websites for Cape Cod Holiday Rentals
Although you may have some cool days by the end of September, in general I think you%26#39;ll enjoy gorgeous weather -- with the added advantage that most of the summer folks will be gone.
I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll receive many replies about websites for rental properties, but I%26#39;ll add a plug for the Tern Inn in West Harwich, which is conveniently located mid-Cape. I posted a review with photos here on Tripadvisor. They offer cottages of various sizes, plus a pool, and it%26#39;s within walking distance of Pleasant Road beach. You can find additional information on their website at www.theterninn.com.
Best of luck!
Best Websites for Cape Cod Holiday Rentals
We have used cyberrentals.com and weneedavacation.com
with no problems. If you are interested in the Orleans/Eastham area where we have been going for many years I can recommend Wilkinson Real Estate in Orleans, wilkinsonre.com. We, and several friends who vacation on the Cape every year, have used them many times. I know that our friends rented a house with a pool in Eastham from Wilkinson%26#39;s.
For a self-catering rental (private home) you can either contact a realtor or go direct to the homeowner. There are many pros and cons for choosing one method of the other and, no doubt, contributors to this board will give you their opinions about the benefits and risks of both methods. I would start with www.weneedavacation which is run by local folks and gives information about houses for rent all over the Cape. Or go to the local chamber of commerce sites like www.easthamchamber.com and www.wellfleetchamber.com
Commercial cottages (like the Tern Inn) will most likely not be included in the same site as private homes but might be listed on the local Chamber of Commerce site.
Sept. is a lovely month on Cape Cod. Generally warm days and cool nights. Since the season is so short on Cape Cod, it is unusual for swimming pools, but not unheard of. Try Morgan%26#39;s Way in Orleans www.morganswaybandb.com It is not on the beach but Orleans has lovely beaches that are not far away. It does have a pool. Our favorite place to stay is Fort Hill B+B but, although they have ocean views, they do not have a pool.
good luck!
Hi there: September is one of the nicest months on the Cape. Other Realtors (Estate Agents) to contact regarding short term rentals in the Chatham area:
www.pineacresrealty.com
www.websterrealestate.com
www.kinlingrover.com
Since you%26#39;re arriving after Labor Day, be sure to ask if any pools available are in fact still open for use! Chatham is a lovely little town with Nantucket Sound beaches (Hardings, Cockle Cove, Ridgevale, Forest Beach), Atlantic Ocean beaches (Lighthouse Beach) and salt ponds (Oyster Pond). Enjoy your planning!
I like vrbo.com no matter where I%26#39;m going.
I second Chatham for your visit, and I also second Pine Acres as a wonderful and reliable choice for a self-catering rental agency. Ask for Karen Jones - she has helped friends of mine in the past who were very pleased. The website is great - http://www.pineacresrealty.com/ go to the rentals tab and you can search by map location, # of rooms, etc.
Personally I have rented a few times from private owners via www.vrbo.com for trips in Vermont and Washington, and I was 100% satisfied, if you do want to go that route, ';virtual rent by owner'; is amazing and there are many Cape Cod properties listed. That said, I might advise you to go with a tried and true company like Pine Acres or John Ricotta and Associates (and probably pay more for the privilege) to somewhat ensure vacation success, where there is a liaison between you and the homeowner. (Yes the liaison company may get something like 20%, but at least you have someone there for you if you need it, at the start of your holiday and the end, and on call 24 hours a day).
September is the BEST month on Cape. I had a beach wedding a few years back on a September 25th. Weatherman said we had a 70% chance of rain - and it was sunny and 75 degrees all day.
Hope that helps!

Gibliano,
You have been given very accurate and helpful information from the other posters. I would just add that September is a great month on the Cape (earlier is better) and that all renters will be offering off season rates at that time. You may even be in a position to do a bit of negotiating on price depending on the property.
You should be aware that the U.S. celebrates Labor Day on the first Monday of September. This means that almost everyone in the States has that Monday off and the weekend is considered the ';end of summer'; even though the weather may not say that. If you were to drive to the Cape the preceding Friday, you will encounter quite a bit of traffic since many will escape to the Cape for the last blast of summer. Just be sure you time your driving correctly and you%26#39;ll be fine.
Gee, I think we all handled that post in a quite civilized manner! It makes me feel good all over. LOL :-)
I would try VRBO.COM or WENEEDAVACATION.COM
Both are great sites for home rentals. Considering the timing of your trip, you should have no problem finding a good rental at a decent rate. Most of the summer tourists will be gone and the ocean is warm-by Cape standards anyway.
You may consider Yarmouth or Dennis Port for a more central location. However if you want the more pristine national seashore, start at Eastham and work your way towards Provincetown from there. You will pay more ih those areas for the most part though.
Back again. What town of the Cape would people recommend as being most suitable for families. We ahve two small kids - 2 and 9 months - so we would like somewhere that is safe and secure.
