Atmosphere around Fenway?

Hello,

My wife and I wll be in Boston starting on July 5th and will be catching a Sox game against the Twins on July 7th... sorry Sox nation I%26#39;ll be cheering for the Twins! :) We will be heading to NY for a few days then coming back on the 12th.

We are both HUGE baseball fans so I am wondering if you think it would be worth it to head down towards Fenway and catch a game at one of the local bars when we don%26#39;t have tickets just to check it out. I have read on here that the atmosphere is great but am wondering if this is something that would be considered a ';must do'; for baseball enthusiasts to truley soak in what is Red Sox nation?

Also our tickets on the 7th are in the bleachers out in Center field. Has anyone had any experience with these seats? I am just very excited to see Fenway itself that I am just happy to be in the building.

Thank you all so much for your help.

Yes, I think you would have a good time watching the game near Fenway. Also, do you know that there are guided tours of Fenway Park?

Atmosphere around Fenway?

Oh yes we know about the tours of Fenway. We are DEFINITELY planning on going on one just haven%26#39;t decided on the day yet!

The atmosphere around Fenway will be fun. Wear your Twins hat, stop in the Cask and have a beer. You will enjoy yourself, make a few friends, and maybe get lucky and get a few tickets for short money.

The bleaches are a long way from home plate, but you will enjoy yourself

Hi,

The Fenway Faithful are generally well-behaved, if a bit tipsy sometimes. It%26#39;s usually a fun, loud, but respectful atmosphere.

Having said that, I%26#39;d probably never walk into the Cask and Flagon wearing a Yankees hat. The Twins are OK, though...

You%26#39;ll have a great time just watching the game at one of the bars. My favorite is the Baseball Tavern on Boylston Street.

Centerfield bleachers can be a raucous time. An apt way to describe it is, ';I went to a frat party and a baseball game broke out.'; Spilled beer and thrown hot dogs aside, the Fenway Faithful and all of Red Sox Nation are mostly well-behaved and intelligent baseball fans.

Any one of these are sure to make watching the game memorable. They are all packed before the game, but thin out as the folks with tickets head to the game.

Awesome! Thank you everyone for all of the suggestions. One of my biggest worries was actually coming into the nation with the opposing team%26#39;s color%26#39;s on! So unless you guys are all setting me up I don%26#39;t think I will worry anymore. Ha ha. :) I think we will definitely hit up one of the bars and have a little fun.

You%26#39;ll enjoy yourselves. There%26#39;s no history of bad blood between the Twins and the Red Sox (thanks for Ortiz, by the way. That was some trade, huh? Who did we give you?). The most you%26#39;d get would be some good-natured ribbing. Yankees fans can be a bit more at risk.

We sit in the bleachers sometimes and the atmosphere is quite pleasant and civil, usually much tamer than I expect it to be. A few knuckleheads may act up a bit, but for the most part it%26#39;s just regular folks acting quite normally. There%26#39;s good energy around the park, inside and out.

Funny you mention Ortiz Bellman. I was just kidding with my wife the other day that I wondered if I would get a warm reception from all of the Bostonites for all of the ';gifts'; that we have given you in the last few years. Maybe I can work that into a free beverage or two. :)

The bleachers definitely sound fun... plus any kind of atmosphere is better than anything I would get at home in our wonderful Dome. I%26#39;m just excited to see OUTDOOR baseball with people who actually know what they are talking about. Most... not all... but most Twins fans don%26#39;t know the game at all! So it will be a nice change.

There%26#39;s a really great moment for every first time visitor to Fenway. When you first enter the park from the street, you%26#39;re under the grandstands. It%26#39;s not real attractive there, despite attempts to make it cheerier. The park is old and the area under the grandstand looks and feels kind of like a factory or a warehouse. But as you begin to walk up the tunnel to your seating area, a wonderful transition begins. First you see the sky, then as you keep walking out of the dark bowels of the park, you suddenly see it before you---THE FIELD!!! It%26#39;s green and it%26#39;s beautiful.

Pause there for a moment and let it register. You may be moved to say ';Wow'; and grin like a happy child. It%26#39;s a moment that many people remember vividly, regardless of how long ago it was that they saw it for the first time. It%26#39;s an image that stays with us. It%26#39;s a beautiful thing.
