1st time - 40th bdays, 16th anniv

My husband and I want to spend our 40th birthdays and 16th wedding anniv. in MV from a Thurs - Sun in 1st week Aug. We%26#39;ve never been to MV before. We like a bit of luxury in our hotel room, spa amenities, privacy, beaches and cute shops. We don%26#39;t drink. We%26#39;d rather not be around all families or we%26#39;ll miss our own children.Does anyone have any suggestions? I saw the Hob Knob Inn on this site and it looked interesting but I%26#39;d love to know what you all advise.

LSAC,

The Hob Knob is a nice small B%26amp;B that has a lot of what you%26#39;re looking for. The Shiverick Inn and Victorian Inn are closer to town. Spa amenities would be available at Boucle, two blocks away.

The Mansion House might be a good option. I%26#39;m not familiar with their spa options, but you could phone for details.

None of these recommendations are on the beach...The Harborview Hotel may be the closest option. Both Edgartown and Vineyard Haven have cute shops, completely different so you%26#39;ll have to spend time shopping in both towns!

Hi - the Hob Knob is very nice and has the amenities you listed. The beach is a bit of a walk from the inn. As in most B%26amp;B%26#39;s you won%26#39;t find children, especially under 14 or so... so you won%26#39;t have to worry about missing yours... too much. Edgartown is charming in a typical New England way. Lots of great shops and restaurants.

The Mansion House in Vineyard Haven also fits your criteria although I don%26#39;t know about the children factor. I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s a walkable beach in VH. As with Edgartown there are plenty of cute shops and a few restaurants.

In Oak Bluffs you might consider the Oak Bluffs Inn... it%26#39;s location is close to the beaches and although it%26#39;s right in town it%26#39;s far enough from the hustle and bustle that it%26#39;s quiet and private. Oak Bluffs is charming in an eclectic way. Again, lots of shops and good restaurants that fit every price range.

You don%26#39;t mention bringing a car but if you are you should make those reservations as well as your accommodation reservations as soon as possible.. August is the busiest month on MV. If you%26#39;re bringing a car you MUST have reservations for it and yourselves too. http://web1.steamshipauthority.com/ssa/

You can find out more about the above information at www.mvol.com

Good luck.

Hob Knob is very nice...but on a main road....Outermost in is VERY nice, out at the far end of the island away from everything, isolated but beautiful, consider also beach plum inn and lamberts cove in, both upscale, upisland. They are away from the towns but nice properties.

In town selections that have been mentioned are fine choices. Have a great time, if you are interested in a luxury boat charter check out

Have a great time!

1. Oak Bluffs is more of a family town with kid things to do and I feel that Edgartown is probably the best if you%26#39;re looking for some ';adult'; time away. Also, I personally do not love the idea of staying in Vineyard Haven because most of the ferries depart and arrive there and there tends to be a lot of trafic and it gets very crowded. I would check out up- siland. Menemsha and Chilmark are a little boring for the clubbing crowd but might be what you%26#39;re looking for in a relaxing weekend?

Something to note: Edgatown and Oak Bluffs are the only towns legally allowed to serve liquor. All other towns are dry.
