Stayin at the Omni...

Hey we are going to Boston in June and got a really great price to stay at the Omni hotel..just had a few questions..like how close is it to everything? (Fan Hall, Freedom Trail..the touristy things etc.) Is it a nice hotel? Thank you!!

Stayin at the Omni...

Boston is very compact. That said your hotel is in a great location for touristy things. YOu will be able to cover a lot of territory by foot and by public transportation which is easily navigable. (www.mbta.com). No personal experience with the hotel. I am sure other TAs will advise.

Stayin at the Omni...

The hotel was where visiting dignitaries would stay when it opened in 1855. It%26#39;s across the street from the Old City Hall and lies right on the Freedom Trail. Can%26#39;t get a better location for touring than that.

Hi

I have stayed at the Omni twice and am planning a return visit.

For my needs the hotel is great. It%26#39;s clean and comfortable and close to everything. Literally on the Freedom Trail and about five mins walk from Quincy Market. The Common is about two mins in the other direction and there are at least three subway stations near by. If shopping is your thing just go to the end of the road and turn right to come to Downtown Crossing. Nothing is far away in Boston but the Omni is really in the middle of things.

Minor quibbles - some of the rooms can be quite small and there is construction going on next door. I have to say that this didn%26#39;t bother me but it depends where your room is.

On the plus side the beds are very comfortable and the staff could not have been more helpful.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

I%26#39;ve stayed there many times. I like it, it%26#39;s an old-fashioned %26#39;classic%26#39; hotel. The bar is especially %26#39;classic%26#39; in its vibe, you can wear jeans in there, but you wouldn%26#39;t want to, it%26#39;s classier than that.

What kind of room did you get for your low price?

The Omni%26#39;s lowest-price rooms are REALLY small, just enough room for a queen bed, a bedside table for the lamp, a small dresser with TV on top, and a separate shower (not bathtub). It%26#39;s really tiny, 10 feet square at best.

I%26#39;ve stayed in one of these tiny rooms on many occasions, it can be a superb budget choice, especially if the only thing you%26#39;re going to do is sleep there, and you don%26#39;t spend any other time in the room. OTOH, if you%26#39;re coming with a significant other, and you want something romantic or luxurious, you won%26#39;t be happy with the tiny rooms, you%26#39;ll want to be sure to pay extra to get a regular size room. I%26#39;d strongly recommend checking with the hotel to find out what type of room you%26#39;ve reserved.

Location is great, easy walk to Faneuil Hall, and to Boston Common/Park Street subway stop, and to Government Station subway stop with its connection to the airport Blue line.

Awesome, thanks for the info all! Yeah it is the smaller of the rooms but we figure we%26#39;ll be out and about for most of the trip...the location it seems makes the price a great %26#39;value%26#39;.

Also we wanted to take a day trip to Salem and heard there%26#39;s a ferry we could take. Is this true and how much does it cost?? Thanks again guys!

By the way, it%26#39;s known as the Parker House to locals. It sounds ridiculous to call it the ';Omni';.

A couple of weeks ago someone recommended the Oak Room (bar) at the ';Fairmont'; to my wife. It took us a while to figure out that they were referring to the Copley Plaza (which is now called the Fairmont Copley Plaza). I joked that calling the Copley Plaza the ';Fairmont'; would be like calling the Parker House the ';Omni'; - so it%26#39;s pretty funny to see people actually do this!

When you return from your trip please post a review of the Omni Parker. We are staying there in July and would love some insight on the hotel.

The Omni Parker House or what us locals would call the ';Parkah House'; has a lot of history. I believe it is the oldest operating hotel in the US. There is a lot of history in this hotel. JFK proposed to Jackie in the restaurant. The Boston Creme Pie originated here, Ho Chi Minh was a baker, Emeril Lagasse was a cook and Malcolm X worked here. Many celebrities of yesteryear stayed here including Charles Dickens. There are also rumors that a room on the third floor was visited by a ghost, who is believed to be Mr. Parker. Many guests would claim to have smelled whisky when the ghost appeared. The hotel converted that guest room to a janitor%26#39;s closet. It is in an ideal tourist location, right on the Freedom Trail and it is a historical hotel. Enjoy our city!
