Looking at first week in June with 19 and 20 year old sons. Want to rent a house on or close to beach and spend daytime with sons on beach, riding bikes, etc, but in or near town with nightlife for college kids, since they are NOT going to want to be with us all the time!. Neither will be 21, so need to be places they can get in, and would prefer they could walk to wherever they are going in the evening - could be a LONG walk..... Both like music concerts. Saw some online in Oak Bluffs, Will they be able to get in if not 21?
Please advise. We haven%26#39;t been to MV since the kids were little, and then only for day trips with our bikes....
Which town would you suggest? Any more specific ideas also welcome.
MV week with 19/20 year old sons
Hi, happened upon this website b/c aol had it listing top resort towns and i wanted to see if mv was on the list. it wasn%26#39;t, but it should be. I live on mv and work in real estate. You definitely want to stay in Oak Bluffs and if you%26#39;re going to bring a car, you should book your ferry trip asap with the steamship authority www.steamshipauthority.com, but call instead of booking online, it%26#39;s actually easier and sometimes there%26#39;s more trip availability than it says on their website. If you%26#39;re not bringing a vehicle, don%26#39;t rent a car over here, they charge big bucks. Maybe mopeds? Your boys would like that. Oak Bluffs has the most going on, other than OB there is Edgartown which is a little classier, more reserved, charming, but older. The other towns are pretty quiet, no nightlife and hardly even any restaurants. Vineyard Haven shuts down after about 7. It%26#39;s a dry town so there%26#39;s hardly anything happening in the evenings. OB and Edgartown are the only towns on the island that allow alcohol, which, even if you%26#39;re not of age, just makes for a more exciting atmosphere. It%26#39;s not like there%26#39;s bars everywhere, just more people and businesses and happenings in general. OB has an tons of restaurants, places to see a band or play pool where you don%26#39;t have to be 21, a tabernacle that has concerts all the time in the summer, shops, an arcade and two movie theaters. The beach is right there too and there%26#39;s just a general vibe of more going on. You should book a house pretty soon too if you want a good selection to choose from. A lot has started filling up. You can check out our website, we have tons of rentals. It%26#39;s www.mvcentury21.com and my email is ali@mvcentury21.com. Check out sites like www.mvol.com which has some great stuff. When it gets closer to your trip try the local newspapers%26#39; websites www.mvtimes.com or www.mvgazette.com, they%26#39;ll have a calendar of upcoming events listed and good info. There%26#39;s always stuff to do here and the bike path goes everywhere on the island pretty much. MV is awesome and OB is your best bet for fun and I would recommend a car or renting a moped or something so you can check out the more scenic, serene up-island areas like the cliffs in Aquinnah or Gay Head as some call it or the very charming fishing village Menemsha. Bring extra $, it%26#39;s crazy expensive over here! If you check out our website and find any house you like, let me know. Hope this helped! Ali Sherman

Ali,
Very helpful information! Question for you: I heard that the water would still be very cold May 31 - June 7th. What would you think? We don%26#39;t want to do a beach vacation and not be wanting to go in the water at all....
If I go to your website, is it easy to tell which houses are walking distance to a nice beach?
I%26#39;m off now, but was then going to check your website. Maybe you could let me know what you think about the weather that week.
most web sites will tell you if rental houses are near the beach or not and yes the water will be a little colder, but can still be beautiful weather (avg june high is 72, low is 55) but the water is comparale to maine in july, and plenty of people vacation there!!
