late 20%26#39;s after fun, and relaxation.
We are struggling to find accommodation as the cottages to rent are mostly fully booked. We have found 1 cottage in Barnstable, but don%26#39;t know if its an area that would suit us.
We would like, medium size towns, good nightlife, great beach for sun bathing, good central location?
Has anyone ever stayed in Barnstable?
Thanks

When are you going to the Cape? Are you looking for a full week? Have you tried to find a cottage using one of the ';for rent by owner'; web sites? (I don%26#39;t dare give you the URLs as some on this site see that as advertising.) You could also try to connect with a real estate company that deals in summer rentals. (Apparently it is ok to list them without encouraging the censor mavin!) Scroll back through the forum to get some leads on these. It is not too late to get a cute cottage for a week. If you can%26#39;t find something that you like send me a message and I%26#39;ll try to give you a few more tips.
Barnstable is a large town made of several smaller villages and one large commercial ';village'; called Hyannis. Where, exactly is the place you have found? Centerville? Cotuit? West Barnstable? Hyannis?

Will you have a car? This is important to know before we give you advice on where to rent. Some good reliable websites are cyberrentals.com and weneedavacation.com. Lots of real estate offices in all the towns plus the Chambers of Commerce are often helpful.
Hi Yellowbird and Senior65
Thanks for emailing back. We have found a little cottage for the 4 of us in the town of Hyannis on ocean street. We arrive in August and are staying for 5 days.
We will be driving from Boston.
We are doing a bit of travelling (NY, Toronto, Niagra Falls, Boston) and want Cape Cod to be relaxing during the day, sitting on the beach, whale watching and enjoying lovely resturants and bars on the evening.
We have heard that Provice town is worth a visit. Is it possible to visit for a day and an evening. The only problem is we wouldn%26#39;t be able to have a drink if we had to drive back. Is there public transport between Hyannis and Provice town?
We are really looking forward to our holiday and are trying to find out as much as possible.
Thanks for you help/advice

Hi marevna,
Sound like you have found a good spot for having fun and relaxing in Hyannis. Although the town is not my personal favorite because it is so busy in the summer, it should offer you lots of options for dinging out, clubs and shopping. The beaches on Nantucket Sound are calm with relatively warm water. Chipsox, one of the frequent posters on this forum, will be able to tell you about the beaches in Hyannis as well as for the popular night-life spots.
For the broad, unspoiled beaches that you probably see in Cape Cod advertising, you might want to go to the outer cape where the National Seashore begins. Nauset Beach in Orleans (a cold water ocean beach with sandy dunes) is popular with the 20-something crowd, or you could visit the Beachcomber in Wellfleet on Cahoon Hollow Beach. Do a search of these places on this forum for more information. I would say that realistically, you are looking at about 1 hour of driving to get from Hyannis to Provincetown...maybe a bit more if the traffic is heavy. If you do decide to visit the outer cape, you might want to make a day of it by visiting one of the National Seashore beaches during the day and then continuing along to Provincetown during the late afternoon and evening. Pick one person to be the designated driver if you decide to drink. Personally, I do not think it is realistic to take public transportation for a day trip to Provincetown from Hyannis but you can check out the bus schedules for yourself at http://www.thebreeze.info/

You%26#39;ll find some excellant nightlife in Hyannis , esp. for your age group(I used to party there myself a long time ago when we had a cottage on Sea Street). the beaches are pretty good, too! Take a trip to P-Town for sure and try to find some of the ';down and dirty'; hide away clubs.( maybe some chat line) It is insane!
Oh one more thing...See who is playing at the Cape Cod Melody Tent the week you are there, too. They have a number of bands visit there.
And check out the Beachcomber on the way to P-Town. I think it is in Eastham. Great beach and party place right on the water.
Raw Bar is opening a new place on Ocean St. The BEST lobstah roll on Cape Cod. Pricey but well worth it. Beware of heavy traffic on Ocean St. I used to live there 3 years.
Hey Caribchakita- Do you mean the Poppanessett Marketplace Raw Bar that Bob Cook runs is opening up on Ocean Street? They do have the best lobstah rolls this side of the bridge- but for $35 bucks, it better be the best! That place has great people watching to as a side dish!
yup. One and the same.
