We have two kids both approaching 3 and 5 in a few months. Our extended family staying in some cottages in Dennis Port and we are SO EXCITED!
I have a few things lined up for everyone, but I would love some input. Here is what I know we will do:
1. Rent bikes a few days and ride the trail with kid seats. I am a cyclist so this is up my alley already and it will be fun to do while not taking it so seriously! :)
2. Sundae school!
3. Nantucket for a day
4. Visit, lunch and shop Chatam - I think I read we can seal-site there too? The kids would love that
5. I want to see Ptown too one day
So that%26#39;s now on my list --- is there anything glaring that my preschoolers would just love that I am missing?
Thanks in advance!
Lauren
Heading to Dennisport June 1-8th!
Some beach time for the children would be nice if the weather is warm enough.
Heading to Dennisport June 1-8th!
Drive down Rt. 28 to Harwich and let them jump on the trampolines for a few minutes to burn off energy.
The Chatham Squire is a family friendly place to each in Chatham. It has good chowder.
Also, try a bayside beach (Deniis, Brewster, Orleans - Skaket Beach) where they can play safely in the tidal pools at low tide and find hermit crabs and other cool stuff. Check the newspaper or free guides at many restaurants for tidal charts.
Check out the Harwich Junior Therater to see what%26#39;s playing. Your 3 year old is probably too young but your 5 year old might enjoy it.
June will still be cool on the Cape so pack sweat shirts or buy them at Cuffy%26#39;s (in Yarmouth and Chtahm) - known for their deals on T-shirts and swetshirts. It won%26#39;t be hot but you can still get nice beach days!
What fabulous ideas! We will give them a go!! Thanks!
Another Cuffy%26#39;s is right in W. Dennis on the south side of Rt. 28. A bit further west is the West Dennis Christmas Tree shop.
Freedom Cruise Line offers daily passenger service to Nantucket from Saquatucket Harbor in Harwichport, the next town over, with free parking for daytrippers. www.nantucketislandferry.com

Sailing lessons for kids 5 and up at the West Dennis Yacht Club. 508-385-9757. www.wdyc.org
Cape Cod Waterways on Rt. 28 just east of Rt. 134 rents electric and manual paddleboats, canoes, and kayaks that can accommodate a family with two small children. Paddle down Swan River to the Sound.

Check out the lovely new library in town. They have story time and other activities for kids.

View from Scargo Tower - Bass Hill Rd is just off Scargo Hill Rd which is just south of 6A. Stop in there are your way to Mayflower beach on the Bay side.
Cartwheels across from the Tony Kent Ice Arean in South Dennis for go-carts. An editor%26#39;s pick on Disney Family Travel website.
www.barbsbikeshop.com - You have the option to pick up in Dennis and drop off in Brewster for a one-way ride.
You didn%26#39;t ask about dining so maybe you plan to eat in. Fortunately you can gather quite a lot right along the beach road, Lower County, including fresh bakery items at Woolfies if you arrive early enough, the produce stand, a couple of mini markets plus Swan River Fish Market will have some side items besides their fresh seafood options. Of course you know about Wee Packet, the Dog House and Sundae school. All are favorites of kids and adults.
Sixteen beautiful, varied beaches and lots of close by things to do with the kids means you have all the ingredients for a great vacation without ever leaving Dennis. How wonderful that you can spend your time vacationing and not traveling if that%26#39;s what you choose. Best wishes for great weather to enhance all the fun you are going to have.

If you%26#39;re in Chatham, go to the fish pier (across from the Chatham Bars Inn), next to Nickerson%26#39;s Fish Market. Late afternoon when the fishing boats are unloading, you can watch seals swimming around the boats. Fun for kids to watch the fish being unloaded, too.
I have written everything down. We are packing for the chilly weather and hoping for some sun!
I will provide a full trip report on return!
Thanks for all of your help!
Lauren
Hi Lauren
I think your kids might enjoy the ';expert'; they have now everyday at the pier to answer all types of questions from the yougn and old alike..........they are all local fisherman and know loads esp about the local fishing scene and how they have had to adjust to the split in the sandbar created in the storm
Another great tip, thanks!
