Thanx for your insight on the traffic , we%26#39;re planning to head up on Saturday morning . I chose the Holly Tree Resort because it affiliated with my timeshare, it%26#39;s our first time up to the cape and we%26#39;re planning on staying till late Mon/tue. We%26#39;d like to get over to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard and or Nantucket, do you think that';s doable. My 2 teenagers are coming with us and they%26#39;re pretty good travelers, so if you can make some suggestions on things to do or places we should see, that would be great. thanx for any help.
Good Evening ccrosner
Hi Rich,
You have picked good times for travelling this weekend. Leave NJ as early as you can on Saturday as you will run into beach traffic all along 95 in Connecticut if the weather is nice. But after that, you should sail through to the Cape. If you leave Monday night, try to wait until 7 p.m. (even then there should be a backup at the bridge) or, better yet, wait until Tuesday morning. The weather predictions are great so Bostonians will now be making last minute plans for the weekend.
In South Yarmouth, you are close to the island ferries in Hyannis so I think a day trip to MV or Nantucket is doable. I haven%26#39;t been to MV in many years, but it%26#39;s really lovely and they have a shuttle bus service that will take you around to the key points on the island (which is quite large). Nantucket is a longer trip but when you get off the boat, you are right in the thick of Nantucket town. I took my parents over last year and we used Gail%26#39;s tours (you could Google her) and, in 1 1/2 hours she took us around to see the island. Might be a good way to see it.
I am not as well versed on the Hyannis/South Yarmouth location as the Brewster/Orleans area. If you chose not to go to the islands, you might want to do a Chatham/Orleans/Cape Cod National Seashore swing one day. We like to ride bikes on the Bike Trail out to Coast Guard beach. I might suggest that you go up Route 6 into Eastham. At the Salt Pond Visitors Center (can%26#39;t miss it), turn left at the light and you will see the Little Capistrano bike rental shop. Rent bikes there and go out to Coast Guard beach (about two miles out). The beach is gorgeous and you will probably see seals in the water. Then you can ride back past Little Capistrano and go onto the Bike Trail going north. Just a bit up the path (after the tunnel), you will come to Arnolds Clam Shack which is really more of a real restaurant. Very popular and good for lunch or dinner. And they now have a very nice mini golf course your teens will probably love.
Hope that%26#39;s helpful. Maybe others can give some South Yarmouth ideas.
