Gloucester to Boston

My family is vacationing in Gloucester for a week in June. We are planning on spending some time in Boston and have been told not to drive into the city because of traffic and parking issues. Is there a train station near Gloucester and is that the recommended and convenient mode of travel for day trips into Boston from Gloucester? Any information regarding length of ride, ticket prices, frequency of trains to and from Boston, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, the commuter rail has stops in Gloucester. There is a station in Gloucester and one in West Gloucester. Schedules, prices and so forth can be found on the MBTA website: http://www.mbta.com/ Parking can be difficult and expensive in Boston, and the T is safe and reliable method of transportation.
