My husband and I will be arriving in the morning, July 3, and then leaving in the early afternoon July 4. We realize there is a lot we must leave out so we have decided to stay in a downtown hotel and see as much as we can in that little time frame. Harborfest is that week; I don%26#39;t know if that will mean lots more visitors in addition the holiday. The only thing on the agenda so far is the pops concert that evening. Anyone have suggestions on an itinerary that will give us a taste of Boston but not leave us totally exhausted?
Thanks!!
26 hours in Boston...You could take a http://www.bostonducktours.com/ to start your day on the 3rd. Definitely purchase them over the internet. They can only be purchased 30 days in advace, thus they%26#39;re not on sale yet for July 3rd., but the day they are available, they will sell out quick, so be sure to get online June 3rd. After the Duck Tour, you can look around the Back Bay, get some lunch and wander over to the Public Garden. Enjoy the beautiful park and take a http://www.swanboats.com/ ride. From here, it might be a good time to head back to the hotel to freshen up, then head to Fanueil Hall area and look around before heading next door to the North End for an early dinner. From there, walk out of the North End to Sudbury or New Chardon street to Cambridge Street. You could easily walk through beautiful Beacon Hill from Cambridge St. making your way over to the Esplanade and Hatch Shell for the Pops. Head back to your hotel after the concert and get some rest. On the 4th., you could take a bus from Copley Square or South Station to Fort Independence on Castle Island. Pack yourselves a little picnic and wait ( between 11:30 and 12:30) for the USS Constitution to sail down and fire off a 21 gun salute to the nation, followed by a 19 gun salute for Massachusetts. Very enjoyable and patriotic event. Then it%26#39;ll be time to go :(
Or you could just walk the Freedom Trail all day before going to the Pops on the 3rd. The 4th could be spent down at Fanueil Hall enjoying the Harborfest events. Many, many options. It%26#39;s just too bad you%26#39;ll be missing what many say is the best fireworks display in the nation.
