Boston AM rush hour

Can anyone tell me how early rush hour starts in Boston? I have to drive from Portsmouth NH to Falmouth on the Cape on Wednesday 6/4 and be there by 10am...wondering how early I have to leave to avoid getting stuck. If I get to Boston area by 6:30am, is traffic likely to be heavy yet? Unfortunately, travelling down the night before isn%26#39;t an option.

If you get to Boston by 6:30 you%26#39;ll be fine. The real bad traffic occurs on roads leading into the city. 93 North from Braintree to downtown is a mess around 6:30 am. The The Tobin Bridge leading into the city from Rte. 1 is bad as well. The same is true for 93 South coming from the North Shore. You get the idea. That will leave you with plenty of time to get to Falmouth.

Hitting the city area by 630 should be okay. 7 would be worse. 730 even worse. 830 really heavy, etc. Once you%26#39;re south of the city, it should let up, but sometimes there%26#39;s a tieup at the Braintree Split if there%26#39;s traffic on 128 and that can affect the x-way.

I think after around 7 or so, traffic volume multiplies very rapidly. I don%26#39;t even commute into town, just suburb to suburb and if I leave my house at 7:10 rather than 7:00 it can add 15 minutes to my driving time. I think if you are in Boston at around 6:30 you will be Ok, but if you are a half hour later or so it will slow you down significantly.
